Texas Weather and Work

“Whatever you are doing, work at it with enthusiasm,
as to the Lord and not for people,”
(Colossians 3:23)

Last week, we once again encountered sub-freezing temperatures. Fortunately, we had an indoor job to tackle! This next week, the weather forecast predicts rain for most days and temperatures in the upper 50s, with possible highs of 70 ℉! As they often say around here: “Welcome to Texas!” 😁

We are at Forest Glen Christian Camp to serve the people, doing whatever is necessary to help the retreat attendees “encounter God.” At times, especially when the weather is particularly cold, wet, or both, we have to remind ourselves that “whatever you are doing, work at it with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not for people” (Colossians 3:23). It can be challenging to remember this when you’re shivering from the cold!

Here are the four main projects we’re working on before we leave camp:

1. Painting the men’s and women’s bathrooms and cleaning up after a major floor replacement project in the North Shore dining hall. We finished this the first week!
2. We finished painting and deep cleaning the Luke’s Lodge meeting room last week. The room is shown in the picture above.
3. Replacing the worn-out and damaged armrests on ten sets of six bench swings throughout the camp. We’ve already done four of the ten or 24 of the 60 swings.
4. Painting the men’s and women’s restrooms in The Pines meeting hall. This should keep us out of the wet weather for a couple of days next week.

We’re grateful that it’s not all work and no play. Nestled in the Sam Houston National Forest, we enjoy a beautiful setting to walk Salomé around the camp and make the most of our time off. However, as we sit here listening to the rain on this dreary, overcast Sunday, we hope to complete everything that has been requested of us before this Thursday. 🤠🤗
