Leak Repair!

“And do not neglect to do good and to share what you have,
for God is pleased with such sacrifices.”
(Hebrews 13:16, NET 2nd ed.)

It was a bitterly cold weekend and Riverbend Retreat had 600 guests. One of the guest rooms lost hot water sometime during the sub-freezing temperatures. Unfortunately, the guest did not say anything to the staff before departing. Tuesday morning during staff devotions all were asked to inspect the various buildings and report any signs of water leakage.

For unfortunate reasons, buildings in Texas are constructed with the plumbing located in the ceiling. With Texas’ normally hot summer temperatures and mild winters, this is usually not a problem. However, when a water line freezes during a vicious cold snap it doesn’t manifest itself until the line thaws, begins to drip water, and water leaks through the ceiling. In this case, the guest was long gone and the water leak had a chance to do considerable damage to the drywall ceiling during the intervening 48 hours.

When we arrived two weeks ago, our assignment was to work on the restoration of a part of Cedar Bluff Lodge damaged in last year’s fire. So far we’ve not been able to work on that job. The first week we were asked to help the kitchen staff with a remodel they were unable to complete. Last week we were asked to help the maintenance staff with the daunting task of repairing the damaged ceiling and insulation.

While one of the maintenance guys was repairing the broken line, he expressed his deep appreciation for our help. It only takes a few hours of their time to repair the broken line (of which they had several). However, it will take more than two weeks to repair the damaged ceiling. It is not a pleasant task removing water-soaked drywall, installing new insulation, putting up the new drywall, mudding it in, and then painting!

Yet, that is what we are here for. We are an extension of their staff to keep things going so they can complete their mission to reach the lost for Christ and provide a place of spiritual refreshment. This room is needed soon for another group of people. We want to make sure no one is turned away for lack of a place for them to stay! 🤠🤗

This week’s Blessings, Prayer Requests, and Schedule are here.
